who makes the Kia automobile?
Kia is a South Korean company, owned by Hyundai since 1998.
Kias are, AFAIK, all made in Kia factories (which only make Kia vehicles, not Hyundai) in South Korea. This is why Kia’s build quality and reliability has not progressed as rapidly as Hyundai’s has.
All current Kias are based on Hyundai platforms with Hyundai engines. Some of these engines (the “world engine”) were jointly designed by Daimler Chrysler and Mitsubishi, and so can be shared with those companies.
Prior to 2000, most Kia models were based on Mazda platforms, and used Kia-built Mazda engines. (They also made cars based on or designed by Toyota…the Carens until 2002…the new Carens is AKA the Rondo; and designed by Lotus, the Elan in 1996 and 1997)
The Ford Festiva was a Kia (the Pride).
