why is american media so one sided?

poverty, disease, under-developement, the desert…when these images show up, you know it’s India…Unfortunately. Why is the western media so one sides? If people just see that, that is all they will know. Not to say all that doesn’t exist, but is that all that exists in the sub-continent of India? Why doesn’t the media ever portray the 400 million middle class population that goes to modern malls, clubs, bars, restaurants, movie theaters ( We don’t ride camels anymore, it’s 2008)…What about the information technology and infosys campuses of bangalore and hyderabad? All the foreign companies? What about the fact that we have around 300 million english speakers? India is also the second fastest growing economy in the world. We have Major industries including automobiles, cement, chemicals, consumer electronics, food processing, machinery, mining, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, steel, transportation equipment, and textiles…Why is the western media so one sided?

This is a good question. The media portrays the majority of the country’s around the world in a bias light. The reasons for this are copious. The media only reports on the major stories, or what they consider to be major stories. Stories of genocide by enemy states, stories of clean elections by client states, and stories of 5 year old children who can play an instrument well. Economic success stories are relevant to the media when it is a US client state, which makes me curious why exactly India’s positive side is not reflected more often. One would assume that portraying such a close ally in a favorable light would be an incentive to print 10 or more headlines about it. I think the major reason the media doesn’t portray India in this way is that India still has too much excess baggage, if you will, in their past for the US media to give them good coverage. I think what you’ll find over the next decade or even couple of years is that India, being an economic and political giant, crucial ally to the US, corporate partner, especially in terms of information systems and technology, and the fact that you’re one of only a handful of so-called legitimate nuclear powers, will be shown in a much more favorable light and may even be considered by the media as a true world superpower.
