Are the “minimum auto insurance requirements” in the state of Florida enough?

Several of my close friends in the Miami Florida area have been involved in an automobile accident just in 2008. None of these people I speak of carried any insurance above the Florida State Required Limits. All of these people suffered from not having enough insurance themselves or the at-fault driver didn’t carry enough to cover damages fully. So what do you do? How much auto insurance is really “total coverage”?
The auto insurance carriers should offer customers a price discount for upping their insurance to a little higher level of protection, this way maybe everone on the roads would be properly insured no matter how bad the accident was or how much damage was caused.

How much insurance is a question only you can answer. Insurance protects the assets you have now and those you may accumulate in the future (think earnings) . If you have a lots of assets, you need a lot of insurance. If you have few assets, then you don’t need as much coverage. It’s your call
