How would each of the following changes affect the position of equilibrium of this reaction?
1) cooling the reaction mixture-
2) removing water vapor from the container-
Which of the following choices reporesent a direct relationship? Assume all other factors remain constant.
a) a balloon becomes larger when is taken to a location that has a high altitude.
b) a mylar balloon becomes underinflated when taken outside on a cold day.
c) the pressure in an automobile tire rises when the tire is heated by the road.
2, because it affects the concentration of water in the reaction and Le Chatelier’s principle tells us that the equilibrium will shift to where water has diminished.
Since PV=nRT and P1V1=P2V2, a is correct, but the relationship is indirect. At high altitude P2 will be smaller than P1, so V2 will be larger. b is also correct, and the relationship is direct. P1/T1=P2/T2, so in a cold day (low T2) P2 will be smaller. c is the opposite of b, but the relationship is still direct. so I think b and c are correct choices (because of direct relationship).
