3. Biodiversity is affected, as wildlife is being displaced by the construction and expansion of airports.

5. We know that airplanes emit many toxic gases, besides dioxide carbon.

6. Air transport takes place in the upper atmosphere, where the negative effects of gaseous pollutants is even greater than it would to ground level.

What is the aviation industry doing?

In the past, the aviation industry was not too concerned with the environmental impacts created by their industry, but that is changing. More and more companies are becoming proactive in their approach to environmental clean environment. Some are even issue annual reports on the environment for the public to be aware of their efforts. Aircraft and engine manufacturers also are taking steps to make their products more fuel efficient.

With an estimated 20 million gallons of jet fuel used every year (since 2007) alternative fuels are being considered. Chicken fat, pond scum and algae are being considered as alternative fuels. With 40% of the cost of an airline ticket toward fuel costs, the search for cheaper fuel will help the industry tremendously. Only we must be careful.
