While parent company Honda continues to bestow all its hybrid technology in its Honda division vehicles, Acura is doing without any alternate engine sources to power their cars and SUVs. Instead, the division is based on new petrol engines to promote fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Acura doing enough or is Honda's luxury division missing the boat? Big changes are headed way to Acura, changes that could dramatically revising the mark and lead the market vehicles powered by a variety of alternative fuel sources. Let's examine exactly what could be an alternative supply of Acura engine at the start of the next decade.

Diesel, Biodiesel – Honda entered the diesel market afternoon, but the company first offers are considered exceptionally good. The four-cylinder diesel engines are being developed that will appear initially on selected models Honda car in the next two years. These new engines meet current EPA guidelines and raise the typical fuel consumption per vehicle by 30%. Importantly, each engine can run on a renewable resource, biodiesel made from ingredients such as soybeans. Acura, may have its own diesel aspirated engine, shortly after the release of the first diesel powered Honda hits the market.

Ethanol – Unlike the United States based automobile manufacturers, Honda plans to offer vehicles that can run on E85 technology. E85, composed of 85% ethanol [of gasoline to the general corn] and 15% has been receiving much media attention lately. However, the extreme lack of service stations offering the fuel has been low demand. Honda has decided to concentrate in the next generation hybrid technology instead of branching E85.

Hydrogen – Claiming that the first hydrogen powered car ready for production in the next 3 or 4 years, some doubt that Honda is ready to make the measure until after then. Look Acura only to get a hydrogen powered car several years after the first Honda hydrogen vehicle has been successfully tested in Japan.

Pluggable Hybrid – Zoom hybrid fuel economy even more power plug-in hybrid vehicles are currently being developed. Acura's first hybrid can include this technology once Honda is ready for market. Toyota is developing a similar model and Ford is doing the same. 100 miles per gallon may be a realistic figure once these vehicles are rolled out.

Natural Gas – A natural gas powered Acura is not likely to produce, simply because Honda is investing in hybrids, diesel and hydrogen technology above all. However, natural gas could be used in vehicles fuel cell for hydrogen future. Thus, in an indirect way natural gas could power an Acura vehicle near future.

So, although it seems that Acura is not getting the same alternate fuel technology as the Honda division is at the moment, it seems that all that will change in the very near future. This is good news for people who enjoy the Acura brand, but want to see it expand to include options that are environmentally and promote fuel efficiency.
