automobile tail light problems?

I own a 1984 oldsmobile cuttlass supreme. When I press the brake petal in my car, 50% of the time my tail lights don’t illuminate. Why is this?

Could be a loose connection on a wire or in the bulb. Also could be a bad brake light switch. Since it is an older car you may want to check the ground connections first since they may have been connected to a part of the car that rusted and is no longer a good ground.
